luckily for brez, her mom was not only willing but able to step up to the challenge of being a single mom and threw herself whole heartedly into the battle to support them both. She found a job in pr, allowing her to work from home part of the time so she could actually be there to raise her daughter. Throughout her life, the two were close and most days seemed more like friends than mother and daughter; though diane never hesitated to play the mom card and lay down the law, which lead to some friction during her teenage years. But what teenager does not fight with their parents? in the end, they were always able to make it work and salvage their relationship.
On her twelfth birthday, brez got the first phone call from her dad in ages. She had received scattered birthday and Christmas cards from him, but it was the first time she had actually talked to him since he left and here he was, wanting to talk to her. She hung up on him and continued to do so for months until her mom talked her into giving him a chance to apologize. Eventually brez did learn about his new wife and kids and even made a few short visits over the years, though in her heart she has yet to actually forgive her father for what he did to them or for not being there while she was growing up. As a result, there is still quite a bit of distance between them and they rarely talk to each other, instead just sending the occasional email.
Her love for music was evident from a very early age. Even as a baby, she calmed faster and slept better with music playing, something which continues to this very day. Over the years, she has tried her hand at a number of instruments, starting with the flute in the fifth grade. Private piano lessons when she was 13. Vocal lessons and choir training in middle school. A friend that tried to teach her guitar when she was 16 and another that taught her the drums when she was 18. Of all these myriad of lessons she has taken, the only one that did her any good was drums as she proved hopeless at everything else. Her fingers and her voice and her ability to identify proper tone were all against her and she eventually gave up the idea of ever creating music for the masses.
She dabbled in dj work and production work for a year in college before settling on major in communications with her eye on radio work, including interning for a couple stations which made it easier for her to get a job at mix 104.1 after graduation. Busting her ass, she managed to work her way up from grunt work to her own show last year. Granted it was only the early afternoon weekday slot, but it was a start. Following that, a new job opportunity saw her leaving boston for the first time in her life and moving to an entirely new coast. San Diego, California to be exact where she got her first taste of being on television, filling in for another woman on maternity leave as part of a sports talk show. It was fun and Brez fell in love with the excitement of being on camera while interviewing new people in a variety of locations. It was a great disappointment to her when she had to step back and let the original reporter return. Saddened, and bombarded with guilt from her mother back home, Brez decided to pack up and return to her hometown in search of a new job and to try and pick back up the pieces of her former life.
